Vice President, Regulatory Affairs

William L. Current, Ph.D. has served as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs at Targanta since April 2008. Dr. Current joined Targanta from Eli Lilly and Company, where he most recently served as Senior Regulatory Advisor within the Lilly Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) organization. In this capacity, he had the primary responsibility of serving as regulatory coordinator for numerous program teams, product teams, marketed products and devices. Dr. Current originally joined Lilly as a Research Scientist in 1984 and focused on antiprotozoal, antibacterial and antifungal drug discovery until joining GRA in 1999. Previous to his tenure at Lilly, Dr. Current was Assistant, Associate and then Alumni Professor of Zoology-Entomology at Auburn University from 1977 to 1984.

Dr. Current has served as Adjunct Professor of Pathology at both Indiana University School of Medicine and Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine since 1988 and 1992, respectively. He was previously a member of the editorial boards of such distinguished publications as Journal of Parasitology, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology and Folio Parisitologia, and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for multiple journals including Science, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Infection and Immunity, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, New England Journal of Medicine and The American Journal of Medicine. Dr. Current is also the author or co-author of more than 280 scientific publications. He received a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an M.S. and B.S. in Biology from Eastern Washington State University and New Mexico State University, respectively.
